Over six weeks, you'll learn about the key concepts and processes involved in software development. You'll understand how code works, so that you can collaborate more effectively with developers.
Module 1: The Software Landscape
- Understand the relationship between hardware and software.
Module 2: Layers of Software
- Dig into each layer of the tech stack, from the front-end to the back-end.
Module 3: Front-End Technologies
- Get up to speed on the roles of HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
Module 4: Back-End Technologies
- Explore the back-end, APIs, and common programming languages.
Module 5: How Developers Work
- Learn about common development workflows, from waterfall to agile.

What are the admissions criteria?
There are no strict admissions criteria. This course gives students a foundational understanding of software development, so you don't need experience in tech or design to participate.
Does UX design require coding?
User experience design does not require coding. However, understanding the basics of coding can help you as a UX designer. Understanding how software development works gives you a better understanding of what's possible, allowing for more efficient work and better designs.
How is the course structured?
Each of the six modules is delivered entirely online, so you can complete the course at your own pace. Once enrolled, you'll have access to all of the course materials for three months.
How will I be assessed?
There will be a 40-minute online exam after you complete the six modules. This will make up your grade for the course. The course includes exercises to help you gain practical experience.
Will I learn to code?
No, this course does not teach you how to code. However, you will gain an understanding of the concepts behind coding and get to play around with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, all of which will help you become a more rounded UX professional.
